    Hey,
Myself and a friend are going on a J1 this year to Boston,
unfortunately our job searches have turned up nothing concrete, most employers need us to BE there for an interview, which isnt exactly possible.

Also havent been able to find much by way of accomodation, craigslist is great but its hard to find short term sublets that are in any way affordable.

Basically i'm looking for any details you may have from staying in Boston before, maybe you could put me in touch with your landord from a previous year, maybe yiou're going this year and still have to fill the apartment you're renting, etc?

Any help appreciated, cos there's only 6 weeks before we leave!
Post here and i'll check back, or if you're giving me someone's details,
maybe email me instead? (<my boards nick>@igy.be).

    Thanks,
    -igy

Yeah, i'd noticed that about Cape Cod, seems to be the big touristy area for the North East :)

How did you get the BUNAC list? Their site says they handle all applications through USIT? (who i'm going with), but USITs list is crap.

Yeah I'm going with USIT too, I went onto BUNACs site, CLick on UK, then usa then work america, then click on Job Directory, get them to send you out an application form, they sent me the job directory with it. :)

Was in a J1 in Boston during the summer of 2003, best summer of my life.

Though I have to say, accomodation is expensive, best to try find a sublet that is furnished, otherwise your have to get your own stuff. Thats the thing about renting in the US, there is never any place furnished, unless you sublet (in which case you'll most like have to pay a deposit for the use of the stuff).

If looking for cheap accomodation best you try places further out of the city.... but be sure that it is near a bus or train station.

Jobs are very hard to find in Boston (and indeed anywhere in the US) since 9/11. Are you male or female? The main places to find jobs are in Security or in Removal companies.

When you get there go to the Irish Emmigrantion Centre (in Boston Common) and they have jobs posted up there. I also recommend ye check the Boston newspapers for jobs.

Other good spot to try might be the New England Aquarium, and cinemas. Do a google search your sure to find contacts.

    Try also www.J1jobs.com

If interested in removal, I can post you details of the removal company I worked for.
