doesn't cost anything - they're ove rin the student centre - just drop up wiht your student card to make an appointment - if its urgent a nurse will see you and determine if you need to see the doctor immediately.

The medical clinic's upstaris in the student centre.
They close for lunch, details should be on the su website.
Usually takes about a week to get a dr.'s appointment though.

Also they are really nice and friendly, so don't be afraid- I'm sure being dr's at a college they've seen everything weird and wonderfully bizar to walk through their door....(wonder if they've ever seen anything ala American Pie tho...people sticking themselves to themselves...that'd put me right off my lunch...)

Anyway, I've been to them once or twice in my time, they're v helpful and understanding, and explain things in monkey simple terms. Plus it's free and you get your medication at a discount price in the pharmacy-hurrah, more money for drinking...another ulcer won't hurt...much

I need to go to the doctor on Monday. Can you just walk in? It being out of term and everything... I've got a nasty infection in my finger, somehow, so it's something I couldn't wait a week for. Luckily (or unluckily) it's on my left hand, if it was on my right I wouldn't be able to write and I've an exam on Monday.

mmm not sure if they'll operate a complete service outside of term. Then again this time of year is when a lot of students fall sick. Best thing is to give them a ring, or call by the student centre.

hmmm... would the counselling service deal with people thinking of dropping out of college?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,469 ✭✭✭Pythia

Well, I can't ring em til Mon which is when I need to see them. Suppose I'll just go to my GP. Ow, my finger.

Student advisers are the people to talk to about dropping out.

    You having second thoughts Dave?

    :(

Try soaking it in warm salty water, might speed up the healing process.

Probably a stupid question, but is there a dentist too? I've had a throbbing toothache for about 3 days now. :(

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

Yeah :( I'm not enjoying college at all... and I feel like it's a waste of my time. I'm not learning anything, and am just worried about passing exams. I'll come out with a degree after 4 years -- and that's it! It just feels like the leaving cert again, I'm not learning anything... I'd learn more reading a book, tbh. Anything that I'd like to do with my life (although I don't know for certain at the moment) can be done without a university degree -- and if I do decide in the future that I want to go back, then I can just save for a while and then do it.
Would the student advisers be inclined to try and convince you to stay in college, or would they actually help you decide what you actually want?

they'll help you decide what's best for you. They know that not everyone is suited to college life, or that they might not be in the right course etc. They will not force you to stay in college or anything.

You're in Arts Dave yea? Talk to Moss Garde. Sound guy, worked with him in Special Olympics. But other advisers are equally good.

It's spreading down my finger, I think I need drugs! Tried hot water earlier. Not much difference.

There's always the VHI Clinic in Dundrum if you need quick treatment. They'll see u within an hour. You pay for it though.

t just feels like the leaving cert again, I'm not learning anything... I'd learn more reading a book, tbh
Thats the way i felt the first time i went through college. Was in DIT straight after i left school and while i did enjoy the year somewhat i didnt feel like i was getting anywhere so dropped out after the year ended. I did this and that for a two years (started my ccna(which i mean to finish)) and eventually figured out what i wanted and am back doing it now. If you feel like dropping out and its what you want to do dont just stick with uni for the sake of it. If i'd dropped out when i first wanted to id only have had to pay half the fees i had to pay (6k ffs).

Basically what im saying is have a hard think about what you want right now. If you wanna get a degree but not right now, the sooner you drop out (if thats the path you wanna take) the better as it saves u $$$ in the long term. Whatever you choose to do however think hard before you do it...its your future your deciding afterall but dont feel pressured into something because "its the right thing to do".

IM a little drunk so take anything i say with a pinch of salt

its €85 i'm afraid. Its beside the Luas station, opposite Town Centre

I live in dundrum too but I think I'd have to be bleeding to death outside the door before I'd pay that sort of money.

Would you not be better going to St. James's hospital instead?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,541 ✭✭✭irlrobins

yea but u could be there waiting for hours. The selling point of the VHI place is that you'll be seen in under an hour.

And if you have VHI I think some of the cost is covered by your insurance.

If you've gotten any kind of a knock or anything they might give you x-rays which'll bump up the price! Go to Vincent's or James's!

Its stupid that you have to pay for GP visits, what do you think your taxes are for? its like paying for something twice... Extend the North, i say
