Didn't last more than an hour. Had about 5k on table 4 and raised to 800 in mid position with AK. A young asian guy (long hair and glasses) on the SB was agonising over whether to call for about 3 minutes. I figured he wasn't too strong at all - possibly a small pair or Ace picture. I started to joke a bit wth Kev the solicitor, asking him to put the clock on the young fellah and as soon as I said this he pushed all-in. I didn't hesitate to call.
He has a pair of sixes. He flopped trips but the river was a spade giving me the nut flush but him a full house. It was one of those double-take moments where I had my jacket on, then off and then on again.

Shortstack came last from what I remember ;-)

Thanks Mark! Yes I was FIRST out! I made it through 8 hands, losing the mahority of my chips when I called Dave O'callahan down with a pair of Jacks on a 6 high board. He had KK. Such a cruel beat. I got my last chips in with 44 on a 567 flop and a guy with AJ rivered an Ace.

I then won 10 hands in a row at blackjack waiting for the cash game to start.

First hand of the cash game I run a full house into Quads and lose my buy in!

However by 2.45am I was €520 to the good, so it ended up a profitable night.

Congratulations to Marq who did a 3 way even deal. Time to give up dealing methinks.

I won the first hand I played. End of story. Absolute rags from then on.

One good hand up stairs. I'm on the BB, 150/300 with about 3k left. Look down to see A6. Joe O'Neill goes all in from ep for about 2.5K. Folded around to me. Now I won't even say I thought about calling because I didn't. Just mucked straight away. Joe show 23o. Lol. I told him he was ahead :)
Good play by him, because if he got the goods later, he would get called with them. Took balls though.

My mate came in for his first game last night. Well he had played a few home games but this was his first trip to the casino. He went out 16th when he called an all in of 10K with AK. Other player had 99 and no A or K hit. Bit unlucky, because if he won he would have been chip leader at the table.
About three hands in the tournament I went to the toilet only to come back and see that he had called Player X's all in bet with K10 on a board of J10x. Player X turns over AA. Course my mate hits his K on the river and sends player X out muttering "great call". Sarcasm at its best.

    Thanks Dave.

I don't usually post long boring diatribes about tournaments but last night was very interesting for me.

With eleven players left I had 33000 in chips, good for second chip position in the tournament. we were playing 5 handed on our table when i got pocket jacks and made a standard raise. Vincenzo called, and after a little deliberation so did Owen Mullen in the big blind who had about 8000 left. The flop was 6-4-2 with two spades and Owen immeditately pushed all-in. I decided to push Vincenzo (who had a massive chip lead, probably 60,000 chips) off the pot and pushed all-in also, and Vinny dutifully folded. Owen turned over 45 of spades for middle pair and a flush draw, with a gutshot straight draw as well. He hits a spade and i'm back down to 25,000, which was still a big stack with the blinds at 500-1000.

Two hands later i'm in the big blind and it's floded around to Kevin Fitzpatick, who i'd seen to be an excellent player throughout the tournament, who was on the small blind. He thinks for a while and makes it 2,500 out of his 19,000 chip stack. I read him for no hand whatsoever and call with 9-10 hoping to hit the flop. The flop is 9-8-2 and he goes all in. I still think he's stealing so I call with top pair. He is stealing. He has king eight for middle pair. I'm about to almost double up when a king hits the river. All of a sudden i have 4,800 and the shortest stack in the tournament. We're on the bubble and I desperately need a cigarette to avoid tilting off my remaining chips. I fold my small blind and thank god, someone else gets knocked out and we're on the final table. there are no other short stacks

I'm still somewhat steaming as i draw seat two to go straight into the big blind on the final table, which i have to fold in the face of a raise and a call. i double up in my small blind when my second pair beats vinny's ace high. The blinds go up to 800-1500 and pass through me uneventfully, I'm back down to 4,800. I'm on the button, and i have 3-4 offsuit. Two people limp, then vincenzo makes it 6000 from seat 9. I think for a while and then decide that there's far too much dead money in the pot for me to fold what are most likely live cards here, so i make a stand. the blinds fold, but both limpers call. Now I have to get really lucky, but i still think my cards are live and i don't feel there are any overpairs out there. When the final board reads 4-4-T-4-6 I more than quadruple up to 21,500. What a time to get quads.

Then we start losing players. I'm winning blinds and keeping afloat. Before I know it we're five handed and i'm third in chips. After much toing and froing, I knock out two players in two hands when i river charlie power with queen ten and call the next players all in with queens against his jack ten. Chip leader. There's nothing but blind stealing and re-stealing for twenty minutes and we chop it evenly when the blind hit 3000-6000.

I was ridiculously pleased with the result, particularly as i looked set to go out first on the final table.

    Many cds were purchased today.
