EXPLORER.EXE replaced with trojan

i have a problem with a PC running XP pro. the explorer.exe has become infected with a trojan and norton cant clean it. is there anything i can do to restore it to the original explorer.exe file?

You'll need to know what it is.

If you can get to the web from another PC, the Symantec site has a number of single exe trojan removers. Just download, burn to CD/floppy and away you go.

Some diagnosis of what you're infected with would help though.

eh apparently its "download.trojan" but the symantec site doesnt mention explorer.exe !

For a start get BHODemon @ http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm

Then go and get Spybot-SD and/or Adaware....
Give your PC a good scan.

If you still have the problem get HijackThis @ http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip
and post the log here.

it just says unable to clean file.
