I'd love to borrow one of these for our wedding day. Where would I start to look?

    Hi Sarah

I've used mine for a wedding for some friends. There's pictures here.

I don't really rent mine out, but I know a lot of DS owners who do so I'd be happy to put you in touch with them.

Where are you located? Do you have a date for the wedding yet? What sort of budget do you have for the car hire ? Cost will vary depending on distance to travel and whether the wedding is a weekday or not (if someone needs to take a day off from their normal jobs, they'll need reimbursement). Generally, owners will want to drive the car on the day. You may also have to cover the additional cost of insurance on the car (classic policies specifically exclude hiring out for this purpose)

Have you any thoughts for model or colour? The older ones are much prettier, in my opinion. Here's an example of an old (on the right) and a new:
    P1010047.JPG

Both of these cars are in immaculate condition. I also know people with green & white (roof), silver & bronze and of course black.

Private Message me your email address and the details of the wedding and I'll send the mail out.

a lovely DS, looked brand new with the height adjusting supsension working 100% sold for 8 grand last month in merlin, is this the going rate for excellent-concourse DSs?

That's around the price for a good daily driver. If it was RHD and structurally sound, that's a bargain. However, they are deceptive cars in that they rust from the inside out. You can have a car that looks great but in fact is seriously compromised. If I were buying a D, I would remove the rear wings, the stainless sill covers and the closing panel at the front of the boot to inspect underneath. Then lift the carpets, check the roof rail and have the seller jack the car up (on it's own suspension & jack stands). This last is a good acid test of the strength of the sills. Also, replacing all the body panels takes about 4 hours with a 12 & 14mm spanner, so you can hide a lot beneath a pretty shell.

Excellent-concours DSs tend to fetch above 15k. There's a place in the UK that rebuilds DSs from the ground up to concours condition. They'll fit anything you want - cruise, air con, electric windows, etc. They sell their cars for about £15-25k sterling.

PS: All DS/IDs have height adjustable self levelling suspensions. The entry level cars (ID19/20, DSpecial, DSuper) did without power steering and gearchange, and used a slightly simpler braking system.

I think there's a big Citroen anniversary feature in this month's Classic & Sports Car mag.
If you haven't got it already of course. :D

wel i dont believe in bargains tbh, but she looked perfect with a perfect interior had obviously been resprayed and the sound from the motor was 100% no dodgy bearings, as u say could be rotten underneath, lovely car really was.

Thanks Atheist. I haven't seen it yet, but I know the owner of the car featured.

Would that be Charles Vyse? (sorry for not getting back to you earlier!)

    Mike.

It is the bold Chas - do you know him?

Ah no. I dont know anyone mad enough to rebuild a DS! The Vyse section of the feature is two pages and about 350 words. He was mad enough to leave the car under a canvas rag for 4 years!

    Mike.

Let me guess - the car wouldn't start this morning, DS?

Au contraire. She starts no problem. The big puddle of LHM underneath is less satisfactory, but should be fixed now that I've fitted a new steering rack.

In fairness, you can't expect prompt responses from everybody. Who's in a hurry?

"I am also looking for a Citroen DS for my wedding day on 3rd October 08 - can anyone help?"

Yes, I think I can help. If you have not already found a Citroen DS then you should contact me and tell me all of the necessary details. At the moment I am mainly looking for your location. If you are interested then you should send me your e-mail address and I will get back to you with some pictures.

    Hi Charleigh,

I came accross your post re ds hire on boards and am in the same situation as the person you were chatting with. Would you have any details for someone hiring DS for the day on the 24 Oct for a wedding in Dublin. I saw the one for hire on dsweddinghire.com, but would ideally like a black one. I'd appreciate any info you had.

    Many thanks,

    Michael

    Hi there

I hope someone picks this up as it seems a while since the lsat post. Anyway, I am interested in hiring a citroen ds for my wedding day. My fiance would be so happy and I really would like to surprise him. I see you can hire them around dartmoor, lichfield and dublin but I am based in Fife. My wedding is 28th Dec 2010. I'm not overly bothered about the colour of the car as long as it is in relatively good nick. Can anyone help please?

    Many Thanks in advance

    Elizabeth
