Its a Network attached storage box (NAS), that one could use to store one's mp3 and divx collection.

Net Zero means we are paying for the destruction of our economy and society in pursuit of an unachievable and pointless policy.

You need a DHCP server for the storage server to get an IP address.. if your router acts as one thats grand.. just go to a browser window and throw in the name of the server (should be on the label on the front of the box) to get to the admin frontend.

You should really do a search for documentation btw ;)

So what is it exactly? A way to have a harddrive hooked into a router, and then any computer able to save data to it?

It's basically a box of disks that is attached to a network and available to all on the network but without a PC in sight!

Sounds like you wanna keep it. No probs.

To get it working - can you download the management software from the Sanp site?
If it's not working off DHCP it's possibly been allocated a static IP from it's last home - just possibly.

Check out http://compnetworking.about.com/cs/pingtools/ for some ping tools.
