Pretty much an automatic 1-year ban plus fine.

You need this person to solve this situation, the next time may not be so benign.

Depends on the offence, but i take it nobody got injured or worse here.

The best answer for this person tho' is never ever drink and drive. A car's possibly the most lethal object anyone has access to, so treat it with respect and don't bring it to the pub.

I think it actually does make a slight difference in the courts tbh - judges would get less lenient with people who damnwell knew they were over. I mean, 'tis difficult to know when you hit that limit, and most people still have huge control over their functioning at the limit, which is something like 80mgL^-1, isn't it?

Yeah blood alcohol level can indeed make a difference, but only marginally. If a person says they only had one Pint/Vodka/Whiskey and their level has just creeped over the limit, twould seem to correlate their story, and the judge might be a little more lenient (half of them are drink drivers anyway). Equally, if they're at stupid amounts, the guy can't really say "I wasn't that drunk".

If you're going to make a court appearance for Drink-Driving, wear a suit, appear sombre, repentant and respectful, tell the court how sorry you are, and how you've gone to AA to assess your problem, and hope that the judge doesn't decide to make an example of you.

the worse you are , the longer you are off the road....(these are the minimum)

Blood alcohol level 1st offence 2nd offence
    81 mg-100 mg 3 months mandatory 6 months mandatory
    101 mg-150 mg 1 year 2 years
151 mg or more 2 years 4 years
"Refusal" offences 2 years 4 years
"Drunk Driving" 2 years 4 years

I presume you or he remained at the scene, if you didnt you are looking at hit and run which is way more serious...

Mandatory disqualification and fine anyway that is if you get convicted. Endorsements on your licence also.

Your also looking at having to remortage your house to pay for insurance when you get your license back. If you can get insurance that is.
