Optical cable is standard (At least it is on my PS2) so you can get one anywhere. As for the S-Vid cable not sure what u mean. My PS2 has a cable coming from the back that breaks out in to s-vid and left and right audio.

That's an S-Video cable. The normal cable that comes with the PS2 is a component cable (red, white, yellow), with a SCART adapter.

I'm looking for the higher definition s-video cable.

Yeah sorry thats what I have (red white yellow). No idea where u would get the s-vid one...

if you get a RGB Scart adapter, and your TV supports it, you would be better off, the component cable can loop this signal through without a problem.
but afaik, doesn't game or gamespot have those,

Nah, it's for a Dell 2005FPW TFT. It has an S-Video input and AFAIK you can play a PS2 through it perfectly. It would save me having to get a TV in my room (which I have no space for).
If Game have them that's great! I'll pop in there tomorrow.

    Thanks

    Little update.
After searching all around Dublin yesterday (Maplins,Peats, Game, Gamestop, Smyths, Sony Centres) there are no PS2 S-Video cables in Dublin. Aargh! So I'll have to ship one from abroad. :(

Gamestop do their own brand PS2 s video cables, think they have them in dawson st.

Anyone ever seen Monster Component PS2 cables for sale in Ireland?

Game or Gamestop? Gamestop are not on Dawson St AFAIK.
I've tried both with no luck anyway :(

I remember seeing Monster Component PS2 cables for sale in Currys at Liffey Valley about a year ago, they were really expensive and they only had a few of them.

Not to nit-pick but its actually a composite lead on the ps2, component is made up of three similar looking leads but carry picture only and component connections are generally only found on plasmas and LCD's (with a few exceptions)

Apologies. Anyway, I've ordered it. From Italy! That's the only (and cheapest) place I could find!

eek, i hope i'm not too late! Don't get an optical cable. The PS2 outputs digital audio on the optical toslink socket for DVD playback only (and in mpeg cutscenes within games).

If you're only interested in playing games, it's a waste of money, because they're all encoded in Dolby ProLogic II, which is sent across the regular stereo red/white cables and decoded by an A/V receiver.

On the other hand, if you want to use your PS2 for DVD playback or you badly want DD in cutscenes (they usually have DPLII encoded surround anyway, in addition to DD) AND you can justify the expense of an optical cable just for this purpose, then go ahead and get one :)

Wiz, where did u order that cable from??? Did it work?? I need on bad too, I've used all the inputs on my plasma, S-video is the only one left. I tried to run my digibox on the S-video so i could just use the PS2 rgb but it wont work(bought 2 different scart to S-video cables but neither work)... There's a few places in the UK that have PS2 to scart,S-video,Component and VGA. I might try the PS2 to VGA as i've to VGA inputs on my plasma...
