Why do people think that by insulting a mod they're going to make their time on boards any easier? I bet if you sent him a pm apologising he would have let you back in a couple of days. I float about this forum a lot and have never seen Bio hand out an unwarranted banning- I always thought he was fair anyway.

Why should i appologise when i didnt do anything wrong all i did was tell a funny joke. Certainly not enough for a ban. Now if HE had asked me not to post the joke for whatever reason then i might have listened.

You will also find that the charter says "etc." I think you will find that this is covered in that section. Just to make things clearer I have ammended the charter to show that posting jokes about any issues regarding paedophiles or child abuse, be it suspected, proven or otherwise will result in a ban for the poster.

Disgraceful carry on by the moderators. Absolutely disgraceful. Some humour is tasteless, crude and insulting and pointlessly disgusting, but its humour to some people and if yore insulted: tough. To others who consider Henny Youngman to be cutting edge it might be off colour but its no reason to snip it, let alone ban this guy.

Is there some plausible reason for banning Michael Jackson jokes? One could *almost* make a case if this were an American forum [in terms of prejudiced coverage etc] but this is an Irish board.

The truth is it has not been proven that Jackson has done anything for a start, and also i don't think the mods want to be sucked into an arguement about it.

Also if you let this go on whats to stop people from posting Racist or offencive articles you can't say yes to one thing and no to another there has got to be a line.

I agree with the mods on this one, but at the end of the day you want to say these things without getting banned then say them somewhere else!

There is a difference between an off colour joke and a joke that makes fun of victims. There is a difference between poking fun and racist abuse (which is what a racist joke is).

Personally, I think the MJ jokes have a right to be posted - yes, they are tasteless, but it is a topical issue and therefore open to jokes (this is rec.humour, not rec.TastefulDinnerPartyJokesYouCanTellInFrontOfYourMother). Why not ban the pope jokes as well - I am sure that many people would find them tasteless as well. But that's why I'm not a mod.

Boards is a forum for everyone, and as such, posts shouldn't offend.

I have heard this paraphrased on different forums on boards a few times, and in theory it is a nice concept, but people have to expect that in certain forums there is going to be content that some people will find offensive. If you look at the Personal Issues forum, there is content there that is most definitely for an adult audience.

That argument is void. If that logic was valid then most of the jokes here would be banned e.g. most of us here are probably Catholics so the Pope jokes or jesus LOL jokes *should* be offensive to us and therefore banned. My sentiment exactly, if Bio was any bit of a good Mod he/she would have closed this thread long ago. As a Mod myself, or at least a Hmod anyway, I think this childish behaviour from the Mod, banning people for voicing their opinion etc is silly, childish nonsense, and dismissing the individual of being of moderator material.

No, we ban people not accounts. Signing up or using a second account, particularly to circumvent a ban, is instant ban. This rule is indentical on every forum. Whether the new account has posted or not is irrelevant.

There IS no algorithm for the line between comedy and offence. Its subjective. So we, the admins, trust to Bio to make that judgement. We authorise him to police and remove content from here. When you think "who makes that judgement" the answer is "Bio and Kharn".

If you cant live with their decisions then this isnt the board for you. Go to USENET or P45 or anywhere you like really, I dont much care. Sorry to be blunt but I dont like all the (ironically) PC tiptoeing about and not just coming out and saying "look, Bio makes the call...live with it".
