right i disassembled an old laptop and stuck its HD into a USB case so i can use it has an external hard drive.

the old hard drive i took outta the laptop was running Windows ME but i formatted it once i had it hooked up to my puter (running Windows XP home)

my problem is that when i transfer files to it and i disconnect the hard drive (after properly removing stopping the USB driver) then reconnect it the files are corrupt or it cant read from the source

anyone any ideas? i'm fairly sure it's not a loose USB connection or anything like that but could be wrong

the same thing happened to me and sorry if this is a tad to obvious, but i ran checkdisk with the repair function enabled, which fixed everything. sorry if that doesnt help, on your second question i've absolutly no idea! try komplett maybe?

    Hi,

_raptor_ - Can you give any details on the make/model of the USB enclosure you're using?

I have used various 2.5" and 3.5" enclosures using both FAT32 and NTFS with no problems. One thing though. Some USB2 2.5" enclosure do require extra power, usually from a 2nd USB port, otherwise you might run into problems (the drive may not write things properly under certain conditions or make an odd clicking noise)

    - Neil
