Which Graphics card

    Hi,
    Hope you can help.
I just realised that my on board graphics card in my HP Pavillion is using 64mb of my RAM. I am looking at buying a graphics card (AGP or PCI?) instead of using up my ram. I have also ordered more RAM.

I don't play games on the PC.
I use IE, play mp3's, DivX, XVid, etc. Occasional video capture from camcorder. Thats it.

On elara and komplete I see lots of cards - which one do I get?
Am I wasting money on a 64Mb 64-bit AGP card?
Should I go for a 128Mb 128-bit card or better - or is this all just for gamers?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hello and welcome to boards

First things first did you check do you have an AGP slot (usually a brown one bigger than a PCI)If so good(if not,not so good)

64mb is very low as a spec and a b*lls on the RAM. If your not gaming why not get more RAM that would help ?????? or do you plan on gamin in the future.

how much RAM do you have at the mo.

Don't waste your mony then. If your having any performance issues get more ram.

hmm, also see if you can change the memory reserved for the graphics card in BIOS.

4mb is more than enough for XGA. It might be called framebuffer size in BIOS.

    Thanks for your help all.
I was a member of boards before (early last year) just can not remember my username - nevermind the password.

In response to most of the questions,

Yes - I do have AGP.
    I currently have 256Mb - another 512Mb on order
No plans to start gaming on the PC (rarely use PS2 at this stage).
I have already reduced the the amount of RAM used for video in the bios as I could not burn a DVD with 196Mb - I know, I know - thats crazy!

I guess my question is now...
I see a 64Mb 64bit AGP card on elara for euro34. Is it worth buying this or hold out and maybe get a better card in the future.

    Thanks,
    John
