I think it belonged to his mother and the mate stole it from the coffin when hes was burying her. Hence the dity look when he was there with the other mate (Rich, silent velcro dude) watching yer man bury the other body and stealing the jewelry.

Mark was a grave robber yeah, and stole that necklace from Large's mother's coffin, the couple who lived in the ark dealed in antique jewellry(or something or other) and managed to track it down because they "owed Diego(the hotel guy) big"

the graverobber guy steals the jewellery from the coffins and sells it on to , we presume, various different people, He must have sold Larges necklace to Diego (method man from the wu tang clan fact fans) who in turn sold it on to the quarry guy (who says he deals in antique jewellery) so to get it back he had to go down to the quarry, simple

Makes sense, Braff's friend didnt know that it was his mother and probably took the stuff wthout knowing... and the pieces fit, thanks
