Need a quick help on website

id like to have the left 1/4 or so of page a different backround colour to the rest but dont want to use frames, any ideas? is there some way of putting in a border or something? am using dreamweaver but amonly getting to grips with it as go along.. thanks for any help ye can give

Could you link to an example of the sort of thing you want?

Also - try using tables.

a fixed width column or expanding width column?

do not use tables. tables should only be used for tabular data - not layout.

heh.. I have a habit of using tables for layout - must work on improving my mad skillz to be honest. I'm getting slack these days.
