    I've been asked to put this up.

    APPLICATION AND USER SUPPORT OPERATOR


    UCC’s Boole Centre for Research in Informatics (BCRI)


    (8 month wholetime contract initially)


    Applications are invited for the new position of Application & User Support Operator, which has been created in UCC’s Boole Centre for Research in Informatics (BCRI). This position is funded by Science Foundation Ireland.


    The Boole Centre for Research in Informatics brings together the expertise of the School of Mathematical Sciences and the Department of Computer Science. The research of the Centre is currently in three broad themes namely, Information Theory, the Theory of Computation, and Computing Paradigms.


    The BCRI has a 100-node Beowulf cluster consisting of consists of 50 Dell PowerEdgeTM 1655MC modular servers, each with two processors and 1GB RAM, in nine chassis and one 42U rack.


    The role of Application & User Support Operator will entail:

    Monitoring & installing applications on the BCRI compute cluster

    Managing cluster user accounts

    Deal with user queries

    Keeping abreast with HPC trends

    Seeking out, evaluating & installing useful tools for the user community

    Offer training courses in UNIX & MPI

    Make available & maintain a library of code samples


    The successful applicant will work under the direction of the BCRI Co-Directors & Administrator.


    Suitable candidates should have a bachelor degree in Computer Science or equivalent qualification and possess excellent organisational and interpersonal skills. Relevant experience would also be an advantage.


    Salary:* €29k per annum

    Wow, thats pretty pathetic money, especially for a contract role. Hopefully there are some serious benefits going with the job..

    Heh, I saw the job title, looked at the salary, thought, "That's pretty good", but then I read the job spec. :)

    Disagreed. It's a sysadmin position requiring a Bachelors and no experience, outside of Dublin. 29k sounds not too far off the mark.
