Best handheld?

I'm looking at getting a handheld and the PSP would be top of my list, as I own a PS2. However, I don't know much about it and looking around I've heard mixed reviews. Also, I've been looking at the alternatives, DS, Gizmondo and Ngage. Has anyone got any experience of any of these, would appreciate your comments.
