One item included is Flashget- this download manager gives annoying popup ads which increase in frequency as time goes on..

It completely messed up my system..

flashget is not reccommended by me.

There is an extension called FlashGot which doesn't do that.

'Free Download Manager', also quite good.

I am using flashget since a good while now and flashgot since Firefox. Never any problems.

I concur. I've been using this for over a year now and never had problems with it. You can even download everything a page from the IE context menu. No ads either which makes it so much better than a lot of the crap out there!

I'll edit it now to remove it.

Will add free download manager tomorrow.

    Edit: removed.
Womoma, don't you think that the thread title is a bit general and alarmist? This is the first complaint we've had about any of the software in there out of > 1500 views.

Sorry for your troubles mind you. Horrible stuff.

I myself have only been using FlashGot for a number of days but I have not had a single pop up in as many days either. Maybe you downloaded something with flashgot that gave you the popups.

I think flashgot and flashget are two different things.

This is the second thread you've bad mouthed Flashget on, I've been using it for years with no problem, it's a handy program if you know how to use it properly. I just installed it on a second computer with no problems.

The trick with Flashget is as soon as you install it run Spybot and adaware and they remove the annoying spyware within , have been using it for years without any hassle at all .

I have been using Flashget for over a year and apart from the odd annoying pop-up it is an outstanding piece of software.

How did a few pop-up ads completely mess up your system? I suspect that some other spyware/adware has infested your system, you should run Spybot & Adaware and see what they turn up.

Ok, sounds like lots of people have used it successfully.

How about I reinstate it, but with a warning to run a spyware remover after installation?

Sounds like a good idea Khannie. I've been using flashget for quite a while and haven't found any problems either.

Flashget is a download manager that monitors downloads from within IE. Flashgot is a little Firefox-plugin that allows you to utilize Flashget from within Firefox. I hope this makes sense :)

No flashget problems here, been using it a while now, only get the odd pop-up but i can live with that.
Didnt get round to running ad-aware and spybot

Khannie - I suggest editing this thread title to something other than "BEWARE; END OF WORLD NIGH".

Newer versions of Flashget are bundled with popups and banners that can be disabled by registering. So its no longer strictly "free" software.

    Options:
    1. Pay for it and disable the popups
    2. Leave it as it is
    3. Obtain a serial number which float about the net
    4. Use a different download manager
