Family Guy. Nothing will ever, *ever* come close.
For non-cartoon comedy series, I'd reccomend Red Dwarf.

I agree. Family Guy are the best. Friends and Futurama would come next.

Dead Like Me can be pretty funny sometimes. If you like something off-beat and weird then try popular, dunno how easy it is to download but its a pretty unique show. Very funny at times too.

Anything from Chris Morris. You've most likely seen Brass Eye and the Day Today but much of his best work has been on radio - Blue Jam, On The Hour, the Chris Morris Music Shows. All genius.

I'd also recommend anything by Reeves & Mortimer - Big Night Out or The Smell Of R & M. They can be an acquired taste, but if you liked the more surreal bits of Shooting Stars (which was their most mainstream, crowd-pleasing show) then you'll love the above mentioned shows. No other TV shows made me nearly have an asthma attack and/or piss meself from laughing at them.

League Of Gentlemen. Start with Season 1 or 2. The Christmas special is fantastic, but it would be way too heavy for someone not used to the style of the series. Season 3 was just crap.

Anwyay, let me second this. One of the funniest shows out there at the moment. Might be hard to track down, but Amazon certainly stock R1 DVDs.

Wow! can't believe you've seen TPB, i've lived in canada for about 6 months now and it is genuinely the best show to come out of North America for years. Weird thing is, most Canadians don't seem to like it.

Rumour has it thet Colin Farrell is a big fan of the show and has agreed to do a 2 show guest appearance later in series 5.

Yeah... people on the Arrested Development Message Board also seem to be going on that this series is awful but my God.. some of the running jokes this series have been nothing short of genius!!

In some aspects, this series has been better than the first. I find a lot of the episodes in Season 2 have better "re-watchability" (yes.. that is a word! :)) than a lot of the ones in Season 1.

Unfortunately.. this Sunday is the last one of the season... but i still have a feeling in my gut in will be renewed.... i really hope so!!
