Tar file joiner?

I have a file *.tar, split into 3 smaller .tar files namely *aa.tar, *ab.tar and *ac.tar. I split these in linux using the split command. How can i join these file parts into one large tar file, identical to the original? Some open source program would be preferable but any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

cat '3 tar files' > 'the big tar file'
should work
