I have been using a pretty good usenet server for the last couple of years now: news.individual.de and was given a user/passwd by subscription which has now expired according to http://news.individual.net/

Is there any other useful free usenet servers out there that anyone is using? I don't really use it that much but it's nice to see the groups from time to time. I found news.individual.net pretty good for broad ranged reading.
