    Hi,

How would I go about blocking a website so that users of a group of networked computers would not be able to access. Or where could I find information on how to do this?

    Thanks

If they're using a shared internet connection, make an entry in the lmhost file on the machine which connects to the internet and point it to something like 127.0.0.1. Crude but effective..

Is that the host file in the System32/Drivers/etc folder??

I am not sure whether they are using a shared connection though. (A friend has asked me how to do it)

All the PCs will have one point of connection to the internet.. in most small offices either a PC with an attached modem or a standalone ADSL router... so thats where you should be putting any restrictions.

Yep.. but lmhosts isn't what you should be editing (thats just for netbios name resolution).. edit the hosts file.

In the case of an ADSL modem, nearly all will have some sort of content blocking options.. its all equipment specific so read the documentation.

many firewalls / internet routers allow you to block sites.

Hosts will do fine if they don't know it's there or can't write to it.

What would I amend in the hosts file?, and if I amend the hosts file on the "main pc" would this block the site for them all?

the hosts file is a text file

    Notepad %windir%\hosts 16 bit win (inc 9x ;) )
    Notepad %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\hosts 32 bit win

You have to edit it on each PC,
if you have a DNS server the only need to edit on it- if you aren't sure then you don't have one

many of the spyware blockers can also block sites too.
