A characteristc flaw of my father. I'm slightly infected with it too.

Is there a name for this condition or is it just a characteristic.
My father, when always invited to a social gathering with the whole family will always say he's not going and then gets in a temper when we try and persuade him to come. Most of the time he ends up coming, sometimes he doesn't.
On the morning of my sisters wedding he got ina temper and said he wasn't going, but did and enjoyed the day.

At this stage I read him well. I remember him saying ages ago that he dreamt of going to Rome. Well my sisters treated my parents to a trip there this week, and for weeks before he said he didn't want to go and yet again got into a temper. I knew full sure he was dreaming of going.
He did and loved it and wants to go back. It seems he has an in built desire to piss himself off, to deprive himself. And it turns into this macho thing, where he doesn't want to give in or seen to be manipulated.

Is it a condition and is there anything that can be done about it?
