Installing linux OS with Win XP

I currently have windows XP running on my system. I would like to add a linux operating system. I have no disks so am thinking of downloading a free one from the internet. I want to set it up so on startup I can decide which OS to run. I have used linux before and would like to become more experienced.

    Any recommendations?

    Thanks

    Peter

On the linux install, just choose to customise the boot loader. Add Windows manually, then you will have a choice on startup. Use GRUB over LILO if you can. PM me if you need a copy of Linux, i've all the popular ones downloaded already.

Most distros I've tested/used do this automagically - ie. when it asks (if it doesn't force you to) if you want to install a Boot Loader choose Yes. Install it in the MBR (it will ask) and you should be good to go. be careful with Fedora Core 2 / Mandrale 10.0 (IIRC) caue they can mes up your windows MBR. Others will know better than I regarding this.
