I am so sick of this.
If anyone around me has a cold, i always contact it.
I keep myself fit (cycle everywhere, gym 3 times a week), eat healthy, take a quality mulitvitamin daily, don't drink, smoke or do drugs but it doesn't matter. I always, always get the cold.
It makes me wish i had my own place so i can insulate myself from catching my flatmates' colds.
This sucks, maybe i should live in a bubble.

I find that eating half an onion (morning and night) as soon as I feel a cold coming on helps no end, but you have to catch it early. Sure, it doesn't go down too well after the weetabix but if you can stomach it, it works a treat.

It's good that you're keeping yourself fit, but this could be the cause of your problem, as you get fitter your immune system gets worse, I don't know why this happens but I've heard it's true and when I'm fitter I'm also more prone to sickness

Ha ha ha. I've never heard anything so ludicrous! I'm not dismissing it mind you, it's just that it does sound preposterous...

What are you basing this on?
Why did you ever do it in the first place?

recovering from one at the mo aswell. about 14 days ago got what I thought was a chest infection, became a flu type thing(was dying!), and now like the end of a cold. and if its one thing about me and colds, they take forever to **** off. please go away cold! I'm taking rubex tablets, and vitamin c everyday, doesnt seem to make a difference to be honest.

Eat, eat and eat some more!

Feed a cold and starve a fever!

Both onion and garlic are well known natural antibiotics, onion is a great germ killer. Google around you'll find plenty of info, e.g. http://www.hmscrown.com/Cold_and_Flu.html
I've taken onion every time I've felt a sore throat coming on and it's stopped it. I used to run to the doctor every time for an antibiotic, now I buy a bag of onions - lot cheaper than the doc. ;)

When I felt colds coming on I'd go for a jog and then make an unfeasably hot curry afterwards.

My colds now only last for a couple of sneezes every couple of months.

My mum's always going on about onions being great but in fairness they're disgusting.

The cold virus isnt airborne(the flu is however) so you can only get it from direct contact ie kissing\drinking from same bottle\being sneezed on etc, if you watch out for these things you should be ok.

And eat lots of citrus fruits.

Frequent colds are a symptom of overtraining, but in fairness it could be any of a number of things. On the days when you are training, try to avoid allowing your body to become too cold during that day and the following night, and take plenty of chill out time before bed. If your body isn't allowed time to repair/recover after training (i.e. if it has to fight off the cold or keep working hard doing manual labour) then you're leaving yourself wide open to sickness.

This year has been particularly frustrating, as everyone seems to be sick, and causing me to contract a slight sore throat or sniffle for a few days, every week. Been clear now for 3 weeks though, so that's good.

I feel your pain. I woke this morning at 3.30 with head bunged up, snot all over the pillow, sneezing and píssing sweat. The bítch is back.

Cure- hot whiskey with honey, lemon, tabasco, pepper, mixed herbs, cloves and two paracetamol. Always works if it doesnt kill you. Me heads for off license..... cough.. cough

Overtraining can cause you to get colds frequently, don't overdo it in the gym.

Apparently a psyhosomatic thing goes on again, as in if you believe you're going to get colds off people you will. (Though belief is probably based on past experience :p).

OH bleh I feel your pain - I'm really prone to sinus infections, and every time there's someone with a cold near me, I get a sinus infection. And my GOD but they suck.

Avoiding public transport is, I find, the best way to avoid the common cold.

Zinc is brilliant for keeping colds at bay or if you do get a cold while on zinc, it's not as bad as it would've been if ya hadn't been taking zinc.

I'd have to swear by vitamin C. The minute I even think I might have a cold I take a high dosage of Vit C, not too high mind. It appears to kill the cold instantly.

This is the only time that I will take the supplement. My thoughts are that if I was to take it everyday my body would become somewhat immune to it's benefits. So then when I take it it acts as a boost to my immune system to kill any nasty bugs lurking in my system. This appears to work for me anyways. Haven't had a cold in over a year (who's betting I'll have one for the weekend now :p).
