Like the other threads of the last few days except....

I'm wondering can I buy a standard Kenwood, Clarion etc
and keep the steering wheel controls that operate it as well??

Do I need extra leads or equipment etc to do this, or
is that I'm stuck with Ford stereo systems if I want
    to keep the steering controls.

Yep you need a special adapter for your radio they are available made by autoleads, we sell them in Halfords and most other ICE specialists should have them. ;)

If you want to use an external MP3 and keep your existing

Otherwise you should just need the proper lead, perhaps with limited functionality. There's no real standard around the remote controls, AFAIK.

I'm doing the same thing. I have a kenwood cd/mp3 head unit that i'm installing into my new focus, just waiting on the parts to turn up

    Product : Quantity : Price
    Autoleads FP0702 : 1 : 6.81
    Kenwood PC99KENACC : 1 : 3.40
    Autoleads PC99X07 : 1 : 20.43

    Subtotal : 30.64
    Delivery : 7.61
    Tax VAT : 6.69
    TOTAL : 44.94

that's what's needed for my head unit, prices are in sterling from www.incarexpress.co.uk
