Has anyone used one of these? Been thinking about getting a Wah pedal for ages now, and this one comes highly recommended for metal, hopefully I should have some cashflow soon, and I might invest, so I ask the denizens of beards.ie if any among their numbers has used, or does use this here Dimebag Wah Pedal?

hey kh i had a half hour or so with one of these and i'd say about 8 outta 10 would be my rating...

has a really wide sweepon it and the q control is really great for gettin all the different sounds you'd need ... from zakk wylde and dimebag (of course) to a cleaner hendrix or srv sound.. it's worth buying and would probably suit your setup better than anything else n the dunlop range... the 2 bad things i found about it were distorted with the boost its very noisy ,lots of hissing when the guitar was lowered down and the effect wasn't as pronounced on the higher strings once u go past the 12th fret(...i think that was the pedal anyway)...

all in all its a really good wah and is really versatile it's definatly not vintage though...oh and it has 2 outputs (nice touch)

A mate of mine has the Dime distortion which he thinks is the greatest distortion pedal he has ever played, so the Dime endorsed product seem to be fairly decent.

Which u think is better the dime wah or the 535Q ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 800 ✭✭✭dabhoys

The 535 q allows you to adjust the width of the Q that you sweep using the pedal. It'll give you a little more flexibility which is cool...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,968 ✭✭✭jcoote

they are really close to each other but if the 535 q can keep itself quiet in boost mode then it beats the dime... not as much control as the above but the new wylde wah could be good wouldn't mind givin that a shot

I asked this over at the Petrucci forum aswell, and the guys there say the Dimebag Wah is the 535Q, but with more options. So it seems the consensus is Dimebag. ;)

Chris had one a while ago if you're interested. Eighty squids or something but if you're buying something else from him he might throw it in at a reduced price. :)

Aye, he doesn't seem to have one now. I think Thomann might be my best bet.

yea i was thinkin for a while i was gona buy a new wah it was between those 2, but id prefare a 535Q but i replaced the battery in my wah today its all Wahier now so that will put my decision off for a while once again.. now ive to get neew pickups in my RG, evos of a paf pro and a fred... cant choose

I had a Boss V-Wah for a while and I really liked it but at the end of the day the Dunlpo is still the best...

Anyone try that new Ibanez Weeping Demon?

Hopefully I'll be getting a little bonus soon, and I should nab the Dimebag Crybaby From Hell, and I might get one of these also. Might as well get both together and save on shipping, than getting the Chorus pedal later.

Yes yes, now people are wondering what's gone wrong here... Karl Hungus, using an effect? What's gone wrong!? But it's for that authentic Chuck Schuldiner lead sound when playing Death songs. So with that, the Crybaby, and the Nomad's 5-way footswitch, I should have a fairly large pedal board for on-stage tap-dancing.

I've one of the Digitech chorus. When I went in to buy a chorus in america. I tried a whole load of pedals and this one was the best to my ears. Just so nice sounding.

    I've the flanger too...

Is this the one? I kinda like the boss stuff as I used to use the old pedals back in the day pre-microcube/nomad, and found Boss superior for distortion.

Do you use the effects much at all?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 800 ✭✭✭dabhoys

That is the very one. Its miles better then the Boss one and so is the flanger. There alot analogue sounding the the Boss stuff. Plus the variety of tone is excellent. Just an all around better pedal IMO. There built like proverbial **** houses and there easier to get the battery in too.

    I use a few effects.

    Digitech Chorus
    Digitech Flanger
Boss DD-6 === The boss delays are excellent and this one has reverse :p
    Dunlop Wah
DOD 10 Band Eq === Great for solo boost
DOD Distortion Pedal === Great pedal I got for $10 I use for throwing the gain another step up for solo's etc. DOD make some Excellent distortion pedals. Ask the doc he knows the deal.

I don't have to many made effects. I'm not into that. I just like to add a little flavour to some parts....

But yes I would highly recommend the Digitech Pedals

Or just get yourself the ME-50 :P Chorus and wah for the same price. Plus a rake load of other effects :p

Hmm... I'll take it under advisement so.

Although, I assume you don't use the distortion pedal with the rectifier? I'm curious, what do you generally use the chorus, flanger and delay for? Do you do the usual clean + chorus, or is it used for other things?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 800 ✭✭✭dabhoys

I use the disortion on the mesa to boost up nice and high for or some extra chugg. I don't always want the 2nd channel's gain all the way up. I have it at about 1 o'clock and thats plenty.

I use the flanger alot on the distorted guitar. The chorus is great on the clean.

The delay I use to create ambient effects. Like theres more then guitar playing.

I keep it simple and use the effects to add a little flavour. No going mad really.

Except the reverse delay can be cool...

I kinda think the chorus on clean is a bit tacky myself, clean just isn't clean for me if it's got effects, if you get my meaning. ;)

Ever use a bit of chorus on the leads Chuck Schuldiner style? Sounds very cool, but I just cannot wait to hear how it sounds through the Nomad. Leads sound sweet as hell as it is, so playing The Philosopher should be awesome once I get the chorus.

Probably the only other pedal I'd get would be this, and that would only be purchased if I got myself a Rectumfrier. :D

I'd still go for Digitech on the Reverb too. The digitech effects piss all over the Boss stuff. There a hell of alot more warmer sounding. Digitech are class at what they do...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

this one? Damned cheaper than the Boss one anyway, but I'm just saying if I was ever to get a rectifier, so I can cross that bridge if I ever go there at all.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 800 ✭✭✭dabhoys

That or you could get the Recto-verb. But to be hones the Recto wasn't designed for reverbed style playing. I like my amp simple. Thats why I went with the old 2 channel dual rect over the 3. There simpler and sound better too.

Its grand to add the effects later...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

Kinda mix between vai/satriani/slash Powerfull tone not to thin but with warmth yet aggressiveness if u get me

:D its gona be Dimarzio's anyways, Just dont know what ones evos or Paf pro+fred =/ air norton looks decent too...

oh and Why u choose the chorus ensemble over the Super Chorus?

+ i was in town there monday theres a mucxh bigger range of pedals now jus noticed, ncie to see

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

The rectoverb is a mere 2 channel 50 watt beastie. I think I'd be going for a dual/triple rectumfrier at the least. I still like the auld reverb on my guitaristry amplificator, but if said amp was purchased, I'd see how I'd get on with the reverb before grabbing another pedal.

You could always go for the Evolution in bridge position and Air Norton or PAF Pro in neck. My custom built is going to have an Evo & Air Norton setup.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

the evo mite over power the neck pickup, but its jus i wanted to make the right decision, the stock ones in my Rg have had their fun!

I think id either get teh evo's or the paf pro/fred But im gona eventually get a custom guitar with paf pro and fred's (god knows when tho) but i might get an evo for the bridge anyways

whats the cheapist place to get pickups on the net thomann isnt that much cheaper

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

The Evo won't overpower the neck pickup, the bridge pickup always has to have higher output than the neck, it's due to their possitions. Not sure about cheapest places to buy pickups, other than thomann though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,291 ✭✭✭-=al=-

i thot the neck has more output but but its lower in the cavity... + of where its positioned oh well...

+ I was thinkin music123, i think it'll work out cheaper for them... + theres straps there i only seen on music123 that i need to get and somethin else im sure!

The neck always has more output due to the way the string vibrates. Of course, both pickups should be set for equal apparent volumes so that you don't get a jump when going from neck to bridge pickup. The EMG 85 has a higher output than the 81 but it's generally used as a neck pickup...

Pickups seem to be the same price no matter where you go.
