So im in work today flickin through the pages of copy of the Evening Herald, and i come accross a (half page) story about the spire having a crack running down it's spine, putting it a major risk. Estamted cost of repair of E500,000 using a new method of repair using "liquid metal". If it was to be done the Goverment would have to fly in some guys from Toyko who are the only ones familar to this new way of repair. If not....
The spire would have to be dismantled withing a decade or so....

The paper is from back on April 1st, April Fools? HOAX?

I'd say its a hoax, yeah. Gerry Ryan did a piece on the Spike last year on April Fools Day, saying it was rusting and had to be taken down.

the spire'll never get better if it doesn't start takin good care of itself!

stayin out in the city centre late every night, hanging round with the wrong crowd, hardly wearin anything no matter what the weather's like... no wonder it's sick!

    must be something to it!
