Just thought a thread containing information about Athletics Clubs around the country with contact details might be good for those people wanting to get involved, or wishing to find out about clubs near them. I'm just going to put down my own at the moment!

    Crusaders AC - http://www.crusadersac.org/

    DSD - http://www.dsdac.com/

    Raheny Shamrocks - http://www.rahenyshamrock.com/

    Leevale - http://www.leevale.org/

Just a few that came to mind.

Yeah its a pity that sites are let go. Like my own(Raheny). I also saw some one on the Crusaders site giving out about how it is let go, but in fairness, It takes a phenomal amount of time. I passed on the web site to a few others guys in the club at our AGM, so hopefully everyone should see a big improvement in the Raheny site. But like that if any one has questions give me a shout here. I'm just another athletics person, I always try and recurret for Raheny but I might, just might let someone from Dundrum join DSD.

There's Sportsworld Terenure, Rathfarnham AC, and Tallaght's not far from Templeogue.

Brother's Pearse is in Cherryfield Park, Knocklyon.

I'd eliminate Sportsworld. You'd have to try to get info from club members and have a look at their facilities.

Sorry I can't help any more.

What age are you Rasherboy? Brothers Pearse do alot of sprint training though I don't know if they have Seniors. If you're willing to travel a bit farther there's WSAF in Walkinstown, not sure about distances though

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4 MiddleDistance

Rasherboy; if your a senior - try Sportsworld, or Rathfarnham WSAF both of which train in bushy. If your a (younger) junenvile try Templeogue/DSD (i'm not sure about the DSD part anymore) that train in Bushy aswell, another club is Brother Pearse in Knoklyon Park (opposite Spawell). Oh I should mention that Tallaght are close enough too.

However if your a junior or u23, or a relatively serious oldish juvenile, try looking farther a field. I assume DSD still have a large enough group that meet in Marlay(middle-distance) and Belfield(sprinters), any way good look.

I should have mention Brother Pearse and Templeogue are promarily sprintng clubs, although I would advise you to go to Brother Pearse as I know one guy who would prefer not to mention Templeogue and their coach, although that i've also heard of sprinters enjoyed it there.

If you are a sprinter most of your work will be done on track so where the club is from won't really matter too much, its going to be about getting to Belfield/Santry/ALSAA on the night a club trains there. However Rathfarnham are probably more middle to long distance. DSD/DCH/Crusaders are the biggest track clubs.

D.S.D would be the best choice as they have produced good sprinters year in year out..Better sprint coaches, training groups and the clubs sprint record speaks for itself

yeah, there's a running club in templeogue - we train in bushy park and use our ladys hall in the winter on bad days/nights. training starts back for everyone prob the 2nd week in september, on the monday night at 630, so come up if you want and talk to our coach - Steven Holt. he's a great man.

What Dublin Club is best for marathon training?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 166,026 ✭✭✭✭LegacyUser

If you want to join a good sprinting club with decent sprint athletes join clonliffe harriers, They train in Santry stadium and probabley the best young male sprint squad in the country for u17-u23,they have also got a good senior squad aswell.Apart from clonliffe your better of joining a sprint group with just sprinters and join a club that will allow you to train with athletes from other clubs.

Hey all I'm looking for a club that trains near dublin city centre a few evenings a week. I'm relatively new to running trying to train for the mini marathon. at the moment I can manage about 3.5K in 20-25 minutes. If i join a club will I be left behind or are beginners welcome?
    Cheers.
