My lcd's vga cable is damaged at the socket end. The cable is hardwired to the monitor. I thought about cutting the cable and buying a replacement to solder on. Seems hard enough to do. Theres a metal shielding around the cable and the cables seem to very thin. Has anyone done this before?

Im going to ring PRSA tomorrow and get a quote as to how much it will cost to get fixed.

Would anyone who has repaired a vga cable before be willing to do it for less than PRSA or know of other repair options?

jaysus how'd you manage to do that - i replaced a crt monitor cable a good while back - they're colour coded so you just reall have to join the wires up with another cable

if you're not in a rush i might give it a bash

The pic is after i had a go at it. I opened it up to check out what the cabling was like.

Cheers for the offer elmer, i might take you up on that. Depends on what PRSA quote me.

How did you find stripping back and soldering the wires together. Some of the wires are very thin.

I'm begining to get a problem with the end of my cable and I seem to have same monitor as you. Well mines a BenQ but its exactly same design as yours

grand - either way you'll be out to bray ;) - I'm used to dealing with xbox stuff which would use much finer wire than a monitor cable.

Rang PRSA first thing this morning, said they would ring back. They never did, so after i second phone call i got a quote of €75. Was told the job would take an hour "its a time consuming job"

Guy in work mentioned all cables. Gave them a call said they will do it for €25 :D

tbh i would have expect around the 40 mark - rather than splice the wires they'll just replace the complete cable inside the casing - not somethign i would have done becuase i'm unfamiliar with it but the outcome will be better :)
