I have preorderd it in Gamestop but I am now not going to wait for the Europe Launch so Should I buy the American PSP or the Japanese PSP and which is the best import website to buy from? What is the pros and cons of the two US/JAP PSP

The only thing I can think of is if you want to play UMD movies buy a JPN one. USA PSP's will not work with european Movies.

    www.videogamesplus.ca
    www.play-asia.com
    www.lik-sang.com

No, you can change the actual interface on the PSP to many languages but you can't change anything within the games. There's a lot of English anyhow in most of them, and if you're still stuck have a look here for an FAQ.

I never heard that now about the colours. I think i will get Need For speed with it aswell instead of Ridge Racer. I have been reading a few reviews on it

They were rumours going around before the US launch and were debunked.

I've ordered a PSP an Wipeout Pure from www.dvdboxoffice.com for €255 with free courier shipping. Only thing with them is that they take forever to send stuff. It's been a week, and their customer service is terrible. They haven't replied to any of my e-mails.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 861 ✭✭✭yawnstretch

The US screen on the PSP is identical to the Japanese one.

Oh and as far as I've read Need For Speed is terrible in comparison to Ridge Racers. Whatever you may have thought about the older Ridge Racer games Ridge Racers on the PSP is without a doubt absolute excellence.

Need for Speed Underground's graphics arent as good, it's supposed to be slow and the handling is nowhere near as sensitive as it is on RR is what I've read on numerous sites. I loved NFSU 1 but I decided not to get it after watching videos and reading reviews. RR also has night levels if that's what your after but overall it does way better in all the reviews.

I have ordered it from http://www.ncsxshop.com and it says in the box it has • AC Adapter (120V to 240V compatible for use in USA/EUROPE/ASIA) will I need to buy a converter/ step down?

So it is ready to use straight out of the box?

thew screen is supposed to be slightly brighter on the Japanese PSP, but Im not sure it such a big difference

    i now have wipeout pure
    spiderman 2
    tiger woods.
All 3 are excellent, tiger woods is as good if not better than ps2 version, the only downside is the load times for it (can be 25-30 seconds between holes)
Mercury and Fifa 2005 on preorder

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 430 ✭✭Gizzard

Does anyone know what the deal with the PSP is in US stores? In other words, are you able to walk into any old store and pick up a PSP, or is it an "out of stock" situation everywhere? I know I had the same problem with the DS back in December, even though it was the frantic Christmas period.

I have a relative going over there next month, may ask her to pick one up.

completely sold out in all the stores in the US for the next 4 weeks just came back from LA yesterday :(

plenty left in the outlying stores in the US from what im reading on IGN message boards. The major cities would be mostly out of stock, but if you go to small towns outside the cities they will have them. Most of the specialist game shops there like EB, Gamestop etc only got enough to cover their preorders, while large stores like WalMart , Best Buy etc got 200-300 each and still have some left. They are impossible to find in LA though

order any future games from ncsxshop.com
I cancelled my preorder for mercury and fifa with videogamesplus, changed to ncsx. They seem way more professional, they respond to emails really fast and their postage is really fast. And they seem cheaper than vg+ for some games also.

Suicide is the only option ;)

    In other news; NCS rock...
Just checked my track'n'trace with USPS:
    Current Status

    You entered XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX
Your item left the United States from KENNEDY AMC at 10:49 pm on April 04, 2005. Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later.

So typically enough it arrived in Europe on Tuesday morning and promptly dropped off the radar. If it hasn't arrived at the house by friday I'll assume customs or An Post have gotten their paws on it

Hmm...I've just recalled that An Post do the "last mile" of this delivery (so used to dealing with couriers). I'll reset my expectation date to Tuesday to avoid disappointement...

Haha...going by your logic I should have it in the morning. Sound in theory, but I'll believe it when I see it :D

So most of you ordered from NCSX then? Their price seems to be going up and up. I've looked loads of places - dvdboxoffice, videogamesplus, liksang, play-asia, dvdsoon, aheadgames, and of course NCSX. Most are really expensive, and the ones that have them at a "not such a ripoff" price are, typically, out of stock.

Where's the best to buy from? I want a US one, and somewhere that it's in stock... is it worth paying €40 extra or should I just wait a few weeks and get it cheaper?

Well, I'd like to get the Spiderman 2 UMD, plus there's no advantage to getting a Japanese one. NCSX have confirmed that European UMD discs won't work on the Jap PSP, and it's more expensive anyway.

DVD Box Office have it for €225 with free courier delivery. I know that's hard to beat, but I'm willing to pay more for a site that has it in stock (though it'll cost €263 from NCSX). I'm looking for Wipeout Pure too.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,225 ✭✭✭Ciaran500

How could NCSX know what the Euro UMD will be like?

Stay away from DVDBO. Nothing but empty promises from them.

Don't I know! Ordered a DVD from them before, on back order for 3 months, the cancelled it. Ordered Pokémon Ruby before. I was waiting a month, then, conveniently, when I went to cancel, they told me it had just been sent.

But I bought Super Mario 64 DS off them at Christmas, and they were very fast with it. That restored my confidence in them, but now...
    Frequently Asked Questions
    3. Will a Japanese PSP play European UMDs?
No. You may be thinking about how Japan and Europe share the same DVD region code (2) but this does not necessarily mean that PSP UMDs from Europe will play on Japanese PSPs.

What sites are there that have the PSP in stock, and accept Paypal? Because I have some money in there going nowhere fast.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,122 ✭✭✭Davexirl

"this does not necessarily mean that PSP UMDs from Europe will play on Japanese PSPs"

Its still very possible that they will. We will have to wait till EU launch till we know.

hmm... glanced over the "necessarily" there...

But, a guy I know ordered a Jap PSP from them, and accidentally got a US one instead. Then they sent him this e-mail...
Hi David, please note that the sharing and compatibility of regions between Japan and Europe for PSP UMD movies is a misconception. To clarify, European UMD-Videos will be region coded only for use with European PSP units and you will not be able to view European UMD-Videos on Japanese PSP units.

The PSP movie incompatibility between Europe and Japan has been
confirmed by our contacts in both Sony USA as well as Sony of Japan.

Although the DVD region-2 is used in both Europe and Japan, Japanese
movie DVDs are not cross compatible in Europe

    Regards,
    NCS, Inc

    Anyway, please... any other sites?

    http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-14-71-7o.html

They take PayPal, have stock (Japanese and US software) but I think only Japanese hardware and UMD movies (and Audio UMDs).
