Seems like the rtm build of XP closes port 113 when its internal firewall is enabled, which is a pain as its needed for ident in irc.
I don't know how to open this port, can anyone help?

Does irc absolutely have to use ident ? I was under the impression that windows didn't have an ident server ( 9x anyway )

The IRC client should have an ident server built in? MIRC does. It's possible XP is locking port 113 and that's what is causing the problem?

Yeah both of you are right, mirc does have a built in ident server and no its not a requirement to get onto some servers, problem is some channels will boot you without it (at least some of the ones i use).
The xp firewall blocks it on purpose, but the final build doesnt appear to be as configurable as some of the betas were. Turning off the firewall will open the port, but no firewall and irc is not a smart move.
I'm sure this must be possible , i just can't figure it out.

MS is probably bringing out a new IRC client.

Got a fix for this on ie.comp that worked..in case you are wordering..

"Unlike Zone Alarm the built in firewall only provides inbound protection. To
configure the firewall to allow Ident requests for IRC do this: Right click your
internet connection and choose Properties, go to the Advanced tab and click the
Settings button, then click the Add button. Type in "Ident" in the Description
of service box, either your computer name or 127.0.0.1 in the Name or IP Address
box, 113 in the External Port number box (assuming this is the port number your
Ident server is configured to run on) and leave the Internal Port number blank.
    Then click Ok to everything."

    One smart guy, it works.
