are you entitled to receive an actual payslip from your employer or is it up to his discretion? my friend's boss won't give her a payslip as "it's too much hassle". What can she do?

Should I always receive a Payslip from my Employer?

Under the Payment of Wages Act 1991, an employee must receive a payslip from his/her employer each time a wage has been paid. The payslip shows details of deductions from his/her wages such as tax and PRSI. For further information contact Department of Enterprise, Trade & Employment at (01) 6313131 or Lo Call 1890 201 615.

yes, as posted above, its a reciept for work done.

and yes, its the law, you must get a pay slip.

also, its in the owners best interest, because you can say that you have not been paid, and he has not receipt to prove it.

I'd say the employer is skipping out on paying his tax.

I imagine he's paying your mate cash in hand myself. Perhaps he's taking the tax out and just keeping it himself too.

word of advice and stupidly im speaking from experience but if you do get a payslip and you discover a problem with it never give the original back to your employer give them a photocopy otherwise you may never see those payslips ever again

I am having the same problem -I have not had a pay slip in three months I have been working. I did ask for them and was asked why I needed it! Still no payslip forthcoming though, it is very annoying as last week I calculated my wages were €2 short. Now that is minimal I know, but 2 here, maybe 3 there, and it all adds up. I don't see why I should have to come home and figure out my own tax etc - I want it on paper so if there is a dispute , I have proof.

I'd say the same. Might not be so of course but "too much hassle" from an employer makes him sound like the kind of chap that nmight think it's too much hassle to pay employers PRSI and make tax returns as well. "No guv, I work 18 hours a day in my own shop"
