Well I've been reading this forum for god knows how long and one thing I've always noticed is the bad mouthing of recruitment agencies.

All I can say is you are right! Dear lord...

I have an industrial placement next year for the whole year. All year I've been sending my CV out, attending assement centers and interviews to secure the placement I feel best suits me. Well just the other week I got an e-mail from a large multi national software services company saying I had passed the initial screening processes and they would like to arrange a interview. All I had to do was log into the system and confirm a time that suited me best.

I study in the UK and that is where I have applied for most of my placements, most of the large companies get thousands of applicants so they generally outsource all of the selection process until the very last stage. Well anyways I was logged onto the mail server through telnet when I got the initial email asking me to confirm a time and date. This means I was instantly notified of the incoming message so I logged straight into the system to confirm a date and time (Being eager n all :) ). No times exist for selection... ok perhaps they havent been confirmed yet. I check later same situation, keep checking all week... same situation. So I e-mail them asking what the story is (Perhaps a error in the system). I got a reply saying that due to applicants numbers there are no more available time slots for interviews.

Now I was told (By the agency) that job postings can go up at 9 and be filled by 3. This is all well and good. However I logged in literally as they had sent the e-mail out so thast not an excuse... the lady on the phone gave some waffle about it being first come first server. I told how I had applied for hte job months ago...

Basically it was a load of waffle I was being fed. Ok, I don't mind if I dont get a job offer or interview. Its a numbers game. But the fact is they went through my application and decided that was enough to merit a phone interview. The phone interview was good enough to merit a competency test and general "How smart are you test" they then offered me a interview that did not exist!

    Uhhhh the mind boggles.

Just to top it off this recruitment company is running the recruitment process for about 6 more companies I am in contention for. So I can't even have a proper bitch fest at them for offering an interview that doesn’t exist.

Its a hard lesson to learn that agencies are not your friend, its simply a business deal.
