I know this is a highly loaded question and very much a matter of opinion . . . but which Linux Cert is good? I have a few MCPs, the A+ and the Network+, so i am now looking into getting a Linux Cert to the collection, but more importantly, i am looking to get some knowlegde on Linux, i currently know next to nothing about it.

I was thinking the Linux+ (mainly cos i am familiar with Comptia stuff) but there is so much more; Novells CLP, the Linux Professional Institutes LPICs, Red Hats RHCE, etc. My priority is to gain knowledge rather than marketability though, i just want to learn Linux and work better with the pressure of an exam at the end. I reckon you guys would know all there is to know about Linux so who better to ask?!?

    much appreciate yer answers, thanks.

CompTIA's Linux+ is very basic, but at least it's easy to pass and looks well on a CV. AFAIK the RHCE is quite widely recognized, and it's a much higher level of certification - think administration rather than desktop pootling. I'd be interested in the others, especially the LPIC, if people with experience with these certifications will post...

Excellent Sico, thats exactly what I was looking for. I think from what you say that it'll be the Linux+ for me, because i want to start on something really simple and basic that gives me the gist of Linux and lets me play around on a Linux desktop without putting me off with excessive depth, to start with anyway.
