San Diego or San Francisco

I'm going on a J1 holiday this summer with 6 friends and had originally intended on going to San Diego. But there's been a massive increase in the number of students going to this city and jobs are meant to be scarce so we're considering changing. The only thing is, I have to decide by today if I'm to avail of free change scheme thing offered by Usit.

Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations. We're looking at San Francisco and would ideally like to stay on the west coast. Is there much to do in San Fran for a 20 year old?

I was in San Fran on a j1 in 2003, absolutly amazing city. The people are very friendly, the place is very cool. It did take a while to find jobs but stick with it, there are plenty there. I cant wait to go back for a visit, seriously you wont regret it - amazing! the weather is lovely, always very hot but always bearable. also it is a great place to go if you want to do abit of traveling around, renting a car is cheap and you can cruise the west coast very easily. everyone ive heard of doing a j1 this year is going to san diego so i would stay well away, it would be like going to the canaries.

if you've any more questions just ask but i highly recommend san francisco.

If the choice is San Francisco or San Diego, it's clear. San Francisco, by a country mile. Fantastic city.
I found San Diego to be rather soulless.

I have only been to LA and SF, SF was by far the nicer of the two.
I'd imagine San Diego would be even hotter than LA and pretty drab and boring as newgrange said.

Both are great cities, Both college cities & loads to do in both, SF can be cold in the mornings (fog), but there's probably more to do in SF.
