New House Wiring

    Hi
I will be moving my existing Sky plus set up from my old house in Kildare to a new house in Meath sometime in June. Does anyone know of any Sky independant installers in the Meath area (Ballivor) that I can contact to get the installation done and connect the cable to the sockets?

    Many thanks

    Hi there
I wonder if someone could point me in the right direction with this new house wiring.
I have Sky plus and also 3 spare Panasonic boxes.
What I want to do is have a dish put up with a quad lnb obviously.
I also want to make use of the spare boxes around the house.
The loftbox would appear to be one way of circulating the picture around the house but it appears not to rely on any additonal receivers, I presume.
The other option, from what I can find out is to hook up a Satellite Multiswitch (in the loft) which will use the additional receivers. But it requires a quatro lnb (am I right?)

Will the multiswitch solution with the quatro lnb work for me with sky plus etc ?

I would appreciate any help with this query.

    Thanks

A multiswitch and quattro would work, but an octo LNBF (8 x universal output) would be cheaper and easier.

Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate it.
How does that lnb fit onto the sky mini dish arm ?

    Thanks

You need a non sky dish for this like triax or similar, go to 80cm if you can

It doesn't and I haven't seen any brackets that allow standard 40mm LNBFs to be attached to minidishes either - perhaps someone else here has??

But you're going to be faced with a similar problem with a quattro LNBF, as I don't think there are any of them designed for minidishes either. Sky being Sky, not only are their digiboxes crippled, but their dish geometry is also weird, so performance with a standard LNBF will also suffer.

So you could either 1) buy a proper dish + octo LNBF or 2) a minidish + a Sky approved quad (not quattro) LNBF + a multiswitch which is designed to work with a quad LNBF (i.e. it supplies the correct 4 combinations of 13/18V and 22Khz On/Off).

Zaphod sorry to disagree but a quad will not work with a multi switch as any switches I've seen only accept fixed inputs IE a quattro

Yup the majority only accept quattro, but there are ones which work with quads also. Saw it mentioned in a series of articles on SMATV distribution in Television mag a few months back. Unfortunately I don't have the brand/model name to hand, but if I can dig it out I'll post it.

I stand corrected but still dont see the logic of using a quad with a switch? Makes the switch more expensive to make surely ?

I checked the original article again and he just mentions that "some multiswitches will send the appropriate tone/voltage to each of the 4 LNB outputs, enabling a quad-type LNB to be used" but he doesn't specify which brands. It's written by Bill Wright, who also did the coax quality report, so if you were interested you could try emailing him.

The closest I've come across on the net are the Hama ones which send out the 22KHz tone on 2 ports.

Undoubtedly the switches would be dearer, but perhaps they see a market for people who already have an existing quad-LNB based system?

yeah I guess it would be useful for upgrading, i'd just be a little bit worried about gain, I usually use the next size dish up on multiswitch installs EG an 80cm for 2d
