How did Batista....

    .....Get so 'over'?

Having just watched the Raw highlights for the last few weeks, the crowd are so into his character at the moment.

It amazes me really, as to be fair, Batista doesnt have the main event 'image'. He is just a plain ol big guy, who just happened to be in a stable with HHH and Flair. Okay, he has learned from soem of the best in the industry, but has he really made the impact to be consider a main eventer, especially a Wrestlemania main-eventer?

Certainly his push came very naturally in a direct contrast to the original choice for the main event, Randy Orton, whose push was possibly the least well thought out of all time. Batistas push seemed to come from nowhere, but he has certainly ran with it.

That being said though, sice his push started, has he ever been overly exerted? He was last into the Elimination Chamber, and only teased his turn on HHH. Other than save HHHs bacon that night, his contribution was minimal. At the Rumble, he came in at #28. He hardly stood the test of time in that, unlike Benoit the year previous, HHH in 2002 (he came in @ #16 or something). Since his Rumble win, he has barely seen a match. Apart from facing Kane last week, it was one squash after another.

Some might say that Brock did similar, in far les amount of time. The difference here, is that Brock feuded with the big guys straight away, and his ability somewhat earned him his push, Batista has never been in a prolonged feud with anyone.

So why is he so over? My only conclusion is because it is HHH he is going up against, that the public in general, and not just the iwc, are tired of seeing him as champion. Sure he has intensity, he has a good look, but for me, thats not enough.

    What are your thoughts?

I think it's due to his storyline (which was well built up) and the fact he won the Rumble which tends to help get guys over.I think he is way overrated though and, unlike Benoit, he does not have the wrestling ability to be a great champion.I suspect he'll win the title (since Triple H seems intent on beating Flair's record of title wins) but I think he could lose the belt within a month at Backlash either to Triple H or whoever wins the money in the bank match.I'd be very surprised if Batista holds the title for as long as Benoit did.
I think it would be best to have him lose at WM21 if they really want to sustain his fan support.

Knew he was pushed to far. People generally dont like having things stuffed down their necks and Batista was really stuffed down your neck especially with the whole smackdown thing. Pointless, we all knew he was going to stay on Raw at face HHH at Wrestle Mania but they still had to go and it and ruin No Way Out.

Anyway i think it's better that Angle/Micheals match is getting more attention then either of the main events.

I also think it would be best for him to lose at Wrestle Mania and win it again at the BackLash.

the main reason batista is getting such a strong response is because he's so big and people think he'll kick hhh's a** but look back to bad blood 2003 kevin nash [diesel] got over because he was going against hhh and he got beat. i can only see a bad match which hhh will win. as much as people dislike hhh you have to admit hhh has put on good matches and shows technical skill match in match out what has batista shown? an inability to go beyond 5 minutes without his repotoitre going stale. batista hsa the look, size, and mic skill[ in short burts] but seems to lack any type of technical skill to earn such a slot at wm. he only seems to have earned it to make hhh look good when he retains at wm
