...one essentially small incident on Waterfords Citys one and only river crossing has bought much of the City to a standstill.

At about 4.45 I was heading to cross the Suir from the Hypercentre (top of Summerhill) I noticed the traffic was backed up to the top of the hill so I went down the Glen and across O'Connel St on the the quay. Traffic backed up halfway to the Glen. After 5-7 mins I was able to turn onto the quay and then saw the problem. A dumper truck was parked on the bridge centre span
and was blocking 1 lane going East, out of Waterford.

Fast foward to 6 pm driving home from Portlaw into Waterford down the Cork rd (4 road miles from bridge on N25) and the traffic is backing up at the Regional Sports Centre roundabout I nip up the slip road by the Glass factory and hope to turn down onto the roundabout from the northside, except the traffic's backed up there. In fact the whole area looks like grinding to a halt..after 10 mins I switch lanes and get through the roundabout. Phew And thanks to the idiots who blocked the roundabout. Grrrrrrr

I get home and hear from AA roadwatch that the Cork rd hell is due to the bridge incident which at this point must have occured 2 hours earlier.

It would be nice the think a government offical or Martin Cullen was stuck in it (I can only thank God I was'nt trying to get to Wexford).

    We need the second bridge!!!!!!!!

    Mike.

ps I realise the times metioned will seem like little or nothing to ppl in Dublin esp but for Waterford its bad and I was only trying to get across the N25 not go into town.

Well if they (i.e. Cullen) spent the money that has been spent on the south ring road on proceeding the bypass you would have the bridge sooner.

Surely you can use the ferry if you want to get to Wexford?
