Where to for Leinster post Holwell?

David Holwell has announced his departure from Leinster at the end of this season.
Leinster has always struggled with the 1st 5/8 position so where does Leinster go next year?
Contepomi hasn't exactly done wonders for the team so far, and it appears to me that a large part of Leinsters performance this year could be attributed to the likes of DH providing quick ball to the backs and kicking with a lot of success.
Where will Leinster go from here seeing as good Out-halves don't grow on trees?

i want them to take a chance on a home grown youngish player. if they do crap they do crap.

Did anyone see BOD being interviewed on "Against the Head" tonight? He mentioned there might be a slim chance Howell could be persuaded not to quit Leinster maybe by a sweeter pay offer ...BOD's words "might be able to twist Howell's arm to stay on at Leinster" or similar. Dunno, might be something, probably nothing

I know Holwell has done a fantastic job for leinster. He has added that extra stability to the team when they are involved in a tight game they know they can rely on him to slot the points.
But Humphreys is not getting any younger and O'Gara is starting to look very Injury prone so, I have to agree with Kevin_rc_ie and say that yeah we have to go with some homegrown talent if we don't we will be in real trouble in a couple of years time with the national team(actually we already are in some positions, props spring to mind instantly).

We expect success and long heineken cup runs every year, so the fans put pressure on Leinster and Munster to bring in big names from abroad, Contepomi, Christian Cullen and Holwell for example.

So the question is, if we continue to do this will we grow any big names ourselves in the future?

Next season i believe the Celtic League will be suspended during the Internationals so none of the youngsters that have being getting their chance during this period will even have that chance from next season onwards.

In My Opinion we have to take the risk on some of our homegrown talent, Scout out the talent early and give the players every chance to shine.

Although he didn't shine for them this year McAllister is a fine out half, I've been watching play for my old boys since he was 15! On his first year with Leinster, hasn't been in favour for celtic league since christmas.

In leinsters case they still have an international out half contracted in contepomi - though as has been pointed out he's hardly required to release the back with Aregentina. He's still a quality player though.

    bloody terenure bias... ;)

I'm actually been more than impressed by Cry Baby. Once he bulks up and gains more experience he has every chance of becomming a very decent player.

I'd also be in favour of maybe trying to bring Andy dunne back or maybe get our hands on Paddy Wallace..

if you remember that story then you'll recall his mentality the following year.

he's certainly good from the ground, what he's like from the hand I'm not as sure

Knew that would rise you!!! I shouldn't mention St Geralds then..?

i do indeed remember (I think i was at both finals) and fair play to him...probably the most pressurised kick he will ever take/make in his life. They could make a movie about it :p

He's played alright for Leinster this season imo...as good as could be expected anyway. Still very rough but bags of potential and obviously has the mental strength to be a pro.

Holwell will be a huge loss if he leaves, hes quality and not just his amazing kicking ability. Roll on Saturday, a huge game really, time to bury the memory of the six nations !!!!!!

Yeah he did make amends the year after :D. He has put on a lot of muscle since those days. Just hasn't bulked up as in a big wedge type muscle.
