CD will work, but DVDs are a no, unless you have a multi-region dvd player (we are region 2, australia is region 4)

Bearing in mind that this referes to DVD movies, not data DVDs.

What about a PC DVD Rom?

Your original question says "pc rom". Do you mean, cd rom? If so, then you wont be able to play dvd's (of any kind) in it.

These are all Australian jokes "Down Under" ;) , your cd-rom will work fine but a Dvd won't due to different region codes

shouldn't be too much of a problem unless there is a major problem with the CD rom drives motor.

If it's a copyrighted CD there may be other factors, eg: If XP is already activated in Ireland you can't just expect to activate it in Oz as well on another PC.

Oddly enough there was a time when monitors were factory calibrated differently for use in the southern hemisphere.
