Can I "fully" control another pc on my (home) network from a pc running same OS (XP) as other one? Basically, I want to be able to access my servers Control Panel etc. Deeper than just file sharing as i'm creating a server and don't want the hassle of plugging in a monitor to the server itself.

XP Remote Access || Netmeeting || VNC.

I have tried out VNC and a couple of others (but not RDP for XP/2003 yet) and have settled on:
    "Remote Administrator 2.2"
    www.radmin.com/

It is the fastest of those which I have tried out and the refresh levels when compared to VNC are amazing on a slow server!!!

True it is not free and you can only download a 30day trial...but if you like it then it may just be worth the cost.

If anyone knows of an even faster package than Radmin (excluding Remote Desktop for XP/2003) please dont be shy in sharing any suggestions.

The one bad thing about radmin is that i can't use it through a HTTP proxy. Or any sort of proxy. Other than that, its by far the best one i've tried.

I'm currently testing TightVNC, but so far i don't think its as good as radmin.

Been using RealVNC for months. Free (for personal use) and it really does the job for me.

Has anyone here tried out Symantec PcAnywhere 11.5 yet??

If so could you give me your impressions of it when compared to a standard VNC variant or even Radmin???

Heartily recommend the windows xp remote desktop feature. Much much much better than VNC for windows (vnc is still great for linux / unix).

I've been using LogMeIn to access my work desktop from home. Its like GotoMyPC except the cut down version is free. It simply allows you to get a remote desktop, the pro version has file transfers, attach local printers etc. As long as the machine being attached to has internet access it works, no firewall issues.

In my experience Radmin is much faster than any VNC variant.

    Will give LogMeIn a go.

Anymore good non VNC progs out there?

UltraVnc is the best VNC software I've used. It's very, very fast. Much faster than normal VNC, RealVNC or TightVNC encoding. Also doesn't seem to use much CPU time on the server.

When you sign up you get the pro version for a while, can't remember exactly, 14 days, 30 days, something like that. I found that confusing because it didn't tell me that. At some point when you try and use the service it tells you the pro version has expired and do you want to start paying, there is an option to just use the free version as well, which of course isn't as easy to see. It works great for me. Internally I have my servers setup for remote desktop administration so all I need is to get that initial desktop to my work PC.

Windows remote desktop is the best thing out there for XP. Its built into Xp. its only downside (for some) is that it locks the machine when you log into it so only you can work on it.

Cheers Diarmo! Working perfecto as we speak. Had a little worry when reading the txt file though cos it said it may not work with a Router on Wireless LAN but it was as smooth as butter on initial first install. Happy days!! Thanks again. ;)
