Seen an unusual classic for sale ?
    Lets us know !

Toyota Carina 1600 '78. 4dr saloon, 17,000 miles, as new inside and out, never painted, no rust, cheap, £1950. 078-4562 2117 Omagh.

I would doubt if there are many 1978 Toyota Carinas left in Ireland, let alone with 17,000 miles on the clock !

BrainD3, this could be the one for you ? ;)

Very interesting Silvera. I'd buy that if I had a heated garage to put it in, unfortunately I don't even have a house for myself at the moment! Hopefully the carina goes to a good home it would be sad if it fell into the hands of banger racers

How old must a car be to be considered a classic?

Like beauty, a classic is in the eye of the beholder. There is no fixed age (unless you're the Revenue).

Otherwise at least two other board users must agree with you... :D

    Hi,

Does a 1989 Mk 2 Golf GTI in very clean condition come under the veil of classic in anybodys eyes ?

Saw one today for sale, I was thinking they must be getting rare now.

    Nice Escort Alfa !

BTW, is that a mowing machine I spy behind it (in the third pic) ?
    (Is it a wheel-driven mowing machine ?)

I'd agree that an '89 Golf GTi (an unmolested example!), is fast becoming a rare breed in Ireland. Buy now when it's cheap !

Well spotted Silvera - yes there are actually two of them back to back - both are identical Ferguson models (one is for spare parts). My old man is into that stuff and uses one of them to mow the grass in a field we have. They are very difficult to set up properly - would often spend 2 hours adjusting them on the back of the tractor and only spend 30 minutes cutting the grass

The wheels are changed to alloys, the tail lights Lexus lookalikes and headlights were upgraded.

I was told the old lenses and original bits were there (I am not a fan of Lexus lenses unless they are on a Lexus).

NCT etc asking 4250.00, personally I would trust myself in the Alfa's Escort before the Golf.

Is my age showing by that last sentence ? :)

I reckon you would be right not to go for that Golf.

But the sounds of it, it was/is owned by something of a 'boy racer' type - who, as we all know, have something of a reputation of thrashing/bashing their cars - driving-wise that is (i.e their cars may look good, but the s?'t is usually drive out of 'em).

Hold out for an original GTi, perhaps owned by a club member.

    Hi Silvera,

I know this particular car and last owner, it was treated like a baby, maybe given too many treats :)

I am the one I wouldn't trust, the penalty points can clock up when driving cars with hidden performance.

    Camorobill,

There are BBS alloys but not on the car, I expect they could be sold seperate, I will ask if you are interested.
