Where do guys go for funky hair styles?

    hi,
my local barber shop is traditional one-style shaved-head location that gives you funny looks if you ask them to only use scissors.

where do guys go to get rad messed up hair styles with highlights - the kind of Jamie Oliver/trendy bloke style ?

I've gone to Peter Mark on Grafton and Stephen's Green, both cost me around €75 and took over 2 hours to complete the job, which at the end I was not too happy about. Plus the next day it was impossible to get the same style back.

Where to go? What are my options? What instructions do I give? What are the styles called?

    cheers,
    fp

In 1999 I started to shave my head (before beckham, he copied me) and in October last I have let it grow again, I wouldn't say it's rad messed up hair styles with highlights - the kind of Jamie Oliver/trendy bloke style, but it is a messed up style I don't have highlights, but I still look cool/trendy  .

It's actually getting a bit long now and I might need it cut properly as I've doing my own hair for 6 years.

    Hey FizzyPants,(great name)

How much do you expect to pay for this new hair doo ? I think your mad paying €75 in Peter Mark.

I'm asking cause I might have to go get my hair cut and pay as I've been cutting my own hair for 6 years.

you could get the students to do you hair, free cut / style, just have to pay for the dye (if you want it). Top floor of Stephens green sc, just enquire about becoming a hair model.

Grafton Barber. Top of Grafton Street or in Arnotts

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,035 ✭✭✭Bri

Out of interest is Artnott's one any better? I've begun to dislike the Grafton St. one for loads of reasons; mostly the staff. They still give student discount before 12 in the other branch I presume?

It is my partner that goes to that barber. He prefers the grafton street one, says they cut better. Were there on Good Friday and I thought the staff were pleasant, i was offered a coffee while i waited for my fella to get his hair done.......

Whatever you do DO NOT get highlights in your hair! They are hideously awful looking. I laugh at blokes with highlights and I know for a FACT that alot of ladies laugh aswell. They scream ponce, jock, twat etc.

Yeah get a cool haircut unlike a boring neat short back and sides job but get one WITHOUT the highlights for your sake. Highlights in 10 years time will be looked back with absolute horror just like the way the floppy curtains haircuts of the mid 90's.

Champs Barbers in Dun Laoghaire are excellent. they do very good hair cuts and only use a razor is you ask them to, the norm is to cut it with scissors, if possible ask for edddie to cut your hair, he is the owner and is the best out of all of them, but they are all excellent, stay away from the chinese bloke though, he's never cut my hair, but i have heard he doesn't really listen to what you want, and just does his own thing.
when you go in, just explain to them what you want done, and they will do it. only coats about €15 (well it did last time i was there) and they take a good 45 mins to do the job.
they don't do highlights though, and you can't book, so sometimes you'll have to wait a while.

another place you could go is toni & guy. you'll pay more, but they do highlights, and you can book them.
they cost about €40 for a hair cut and €35 for highlights.
a little tip though, book in for highlights(no haircut just highlights) on a busy day, like saturday afternoon.when u turn up there is usually a huge backlog of people waiting for colour, so they do all the people getting haircuts too before they come to you. last time i had to wait about 45 mins, but in the end, got a load of free products, and the highlights were free too.
so if you don't mind waiting a bit its well worth while.
not sure if they do this for everyone, or just did it for me cuz i get my hair cut there all the time, but its worth a try.

Back to 2002, when that awful look was still considered "fashionable".

    Two questions:

    Is this a unisex hairdresser?
    How much (roughly)?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 9,390 ✭✭✭Stench Blossoms

    yep its a unisex..

I give a rough guess and say about €50 but i could be way off. It costs me €120 to get my hair done in there but i always get alot done

Fair enough girls are used to getting ripped off with their hair cuts...but 50 quid for a guy is sheer vanity!

I gave myself highlights today. Worked out quite well, except there's loads in the front around the fringe and not as much towards the top of my head

I've been to the one in Grafton st loads, but only once went to Arnotts, it was crap, even though I work on Henry st, I'd still go to the grafton st one, Knights is also good.

I just tried Peter Mark, in the Stephens green center. Very impressed, the cut was good, price wise it was resonable and they were able to give me good advice on my hair also.

Ok so it was more expensive than your €6 short back and sides, but hey it looks alot better.

I dunno Zane, I think highlights would suit you! :D To the OP, theres meant to be a whole floor of hairdressers in Dundrum, maybe try that place?
