Pc reboots

    Hey all,

    I have recently built my new PC,Intel P4 3.2Ghz socket 775,Asus P5AD2-E-Premium MB,512MB Crucial Ballistix DDR2 Memory,Nividia GeForce 6600 GT,Sony DVD-CD Writer combo drive.Windows XP Pro SP2.

The problem I have is that every once in a while my pc reboots itself. It only happens when reading/opening/closing CD-Rom drive. It only reboots on the odd occasion, say every 5th or 6th time I use the CD-Rom.It's very irritating though!!

I ran Sisoft Sandra and it reports that my FSB speed is to high. This is the report "Warning W2542 - Memory bus speed exceeds chipset rated memory bus speed. . If you’re over clocking the system just be aware that it may not be as stable as you may think. Also you may be over clocking the memory modules themselves.
Fix: Reduce the FSB or reduce the FSB/Memory multiplier"

Could this fix the problem, most of my BIOS settings are on "Auto"

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

    Cheers

Well I know this probly ain't much help but it may be something.

I had an asus board (P4C800-E) and crucial ram (not sure about model) and I had a bit of a problem, it was when I overclocked (too-much) the ram would fail and i'd have to remove ram, restart pc, then put ram back in.
However these problems all went when I updated the bios and set the speed manually, then another asus update came pout and I don't need to manual set the bios stting.
So I guess you should hava poke arround the asus webste and check for a bios update!

good luck & sorry i couldn't be more helpful :(

PSU. It's gotta be the PSU.

    Let me guess, QTec?

Go into the BIOS and make sure all settings are as they should. If it overclocking the CPU by mistake this could be your problem, I douth the CD drive is causing the problem but to be sure uninstall it from device manager and restart, Windows will pick it up and reinstall the drivers.
