Hey, I take it you are going to be the primary driver of the car yeh? Are you going to be driving it to work every day?
Word of warning, if you are involved in any sort of significant accident on yer way to work, it won't take investigators long to realise that your Dad ain't the main driver of the car & you are & you'll be pretty much screwed.
Would ya not rather get a more affordable car to insure, get your own insurance and start building up your NCB, while you're young and can (prob) afford it?

having your dad is a named driver is a good way to get cheaper insurance. but look at it this way, you're going to have to get your insurance sooner or later, so if you go the bit extra and get your own now, you'll have a NCD for next year.

Bollocks, they'll never find out and would certainly never be able to get away with not paying out for that reason (if thats what you're suggesting).

In answer to the Q, yes at 19 this is by far the best option.
Start building up your NCB on your own policy in a couple of years, under 20 years old you would likely be looking at 4k+ for your own policy.

Sadly, this is true. At only 20 with a full licence, I still get quotes for well in excess of 3,000! Lowest being 1,800 with Quinn Direct.

I think the best option for you, is to go as a named driver. :(
Also, what kind of mileage do you expect to do? Do you really need a 1.4?

To be honest I think you're mad to even consider spending that much on a car at age 20! Even now at age 27 I wouldn't spend that much on a car. You don't need to. 12grand on a car.. you could get a cool car for a third of that. Last thing you need is to paying off a stinking car loan for ages.

Re the insurance thing.. I was a named driver for ages on my dad's policy. I was the main driver of the car. It works out a hell of a lot cheaper. Go with it. Named driver experience still counts for something when you get your own policy. I have my own policy now, but only because I'm 27 and am not being screwed as much as I would have been a few years back..

    K.

theres alot of choice, escort ghias are dirt cheap, civic saloons are fairly good value too. mondeos are another option. 1.3 golfs are cheap to insure too
