I am renting at the mo,hence no BB and am on eircom 25hours free per month off peak.
I have went to the eircom site ,trouble shooted everything the said and still getting disconnected after 5-10-15mins(varies).
After all the changing my speed has gone from 49-50kbps to 33-34kbps,for no apparent reason!
My dad previously had this pc(Aldi-medion)14 months old and had it configured for BB,could this be the problem,if so how can I change to dial_up
    settings???

First thing to check is on Outlook Express (or whatever email programme you use) under Tools/Options/Connection (or whatever is similar) that 'Hang up after send and receive' is NOT ticked.

You should check under Internet Explorer (or your browser) in Tools/Internet Options/Connection that your Internet connection matches the one you have told your email account to use.
In Outlook Express that is at :Tools/Accounts/Mail/Properties/Connection

perhaps you have a modem hi-jacker / dialler that is trying to disconnect and connect to a different number, check connection settings

Had that a couple of years back, on Eircom subscription account. Solved it by.... changing to UTV. Nothing else worked (even changed modem).

GF had this problem a while back,I think it was that the dial in number set up by the installation cd is just to get you going,IIRC the last 6 digits of the number should be 252525,Eircom support will tell you the correct one.

EDIT your dial in num should be 1893 252525

after all the obvious the thing to look at is your fone cable that connects to modem to socket...

changing this might make the world of dirrerence

Modems are evil evil creatures. As well as all the suggestions above make sure your modem drivers are correct, and if they are, well reinstall them anyway. Failing that dump eircom for another ISP and buy a USR external serial modem, should find one on the buyandsell. From my experience they rarely if ever disconnect and get decent speeds almost all the time. And, thanks to eircom, I still use one.
