Anyone have one or know anything about how they work?
Do they actually have heating elements?
    Are they any good?

I have one- its the worst of both worlds.....
The microwave section is of too low a wattage, and the oven part, well, its just not the same. Give me a seperate oven and microwave anyday :(
A proper oven with a fan will cook food a lot better than one of these- but if its pizza with a slightly crispy topping you're going for- who is going to notice the difference? You know, now that Royal Bank of Scotland have bought the ESB shops- there probably will be a mad sale of all the stock to try and clear them? Or am I having wishful thoughts?

combination is a mixture of 1/2 microwave and 1/2 heating element and i dont like it for pizza, the microwaves nuke it b4 it bakes as its so thin and offers tno resistance but is good for potatoes that offer resistance, another setting is convection which is just a fan assisted heating element with rotating table. pizza comes out lovely on this setting and is faster than a regular oven as it heats up quicker and the rotating table helps.

we use combination thats the half and half for baking jacket potatoes which it does in 10 minutes perfectly.

so convection/combination microwaves are WAY better than an ordinary microwave, make no mistake.
