His one is a new custom shop one and the finish has sparkles in the sliver. Mines not as sparkly as his one. But still looks cool. But its not all about the looks. Its plays and sounds amazing....

    Oooh, give more details!

It weights a ton solid maple cabinet with a caned speaker cover. I don't know if caned is the right word or term to describe it. Like an old caned chair. Louder than hell-distortion to kill for...can be really dirty or really sweet. One massive 12" speaker. Oh Yeah can sustain like a mother.

    Something like this baby?
I'd say you must be well happy with it altogether.
I'm always looking out for a Mark IV myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

I saw a pretty beat up mark IV in Palmers, Waterford yesterday. Recently serviced and retubed... but the price was ridiculous... 1.5 - 2k.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

That's not actually that ridiculous for a Mark IV. Retail price is a bout 3k on Thomann and the like.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,691 ✭✭✭david

I thought they didnt make MK-IV's anymore...?

I've yet to play a Mesa that didn't impress me. My favourite is the Road King. Its amazing. The lone star is also excellent. The whole range is top class. I was jamming yesterday and the tone is so sweet it make ya cry...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

The F-50 is indeed very cool, I have some samples a fellow over at the Petrucci board recorded, and the tone he gets out of the amp is just fantastic. But dabhoys is quite right, top class range of amps altogether, but personally I've still to find an amp to blow me away like the Mark IV did. I'm still tweaking with the settings on my Nomad, and the sheer scope of tones you can get out of it is breath-taking. The cleans channel tones I'm getting from this baby is just astounding.

The Mesa EQ's as with most american made boutique amps are extremely sensitive and take a while to get the sound you want. But once you know what your doing your laughing. To me nothing beats the sound of a fully cranked valve amp. Its quite scary how loud the Mesa goes. I just throw in the old ear plugs and turn it up to suit and it was at the point where you feel your legs vibrate. Thats cool!!! Its great having no neighbours....

    Jim Dunlop Advdanced Capo

I've got an Eepiphone Explorer with EMG pickups and A Squier Strat...

As for amps I used to have a crappy Squier starter amp, and now I have a Marshall 30dfx...

Aye, I can imagine! I can't really crank my auld Nomad too much because the whole room starts shaking, and I've had an 'accident' with my Trace Elliot and things falling off my shelves. Still, the cleans on the nomad are just deliscious, so playing at low enough levels it's still 100% sweetness! The difference a tube amp makes is phenominal. I want to lug it up to an empty room at some stage, shove in some earplugs, and CRANK the bejaysis out of it to see just what the nomad is capable of!

Of course, once I get my Stealth, I will be lugging it to Dublin to try out in your rectumfrier! ;)

Heh. That sounds like a damn good excuse for a "Karl's Stealth-Trying" party if you ask me! :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

Right, sounds like a plan. Beers all round!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 800 ✭✭✭dabhoys

I had a good laugh one day putting the amp out back and turning it well up and blasting out Iron Man on the Les Paul. That was deadly :p

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29,130 ✭✭✭✭Karl Hungus

So, it's ok with you if I make plans for a session in your house, dabhoys?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 800 ✭✭✭dabhoys

That was a once off chief. No sessions at my house at the moment :p

I meant to ask ya does the nomad have the tubed rectifier section???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,034 ✭✭✭✭It wasn't me!

I'll pass on the beer, but more Stealth! :D
