Car sharing

What about this Swiss idea for car sharing? It's some kind of co-operative car rental scheme. The scheme owns one car for every 30 members. Members can pick up a car for a couple of hours whenever they need it (typically from a railway station). All costs are covered by the scheme including fuel and insurance.

You pay an annual fee (€200) and then a fee per hour and per km for rental. The hourly rate is far cheaper at night than during the day.

They give examples such as :
3 hrs shopping in the evening with a small car: €10
5 hours use of a convertible in the afternoon: €30

Obviously public transport is a more realistic option in Switzerland than here, so I'm not suggesting it would be as popular but there might be some room for it in the future.
