I'm planning on getting an old cheapo bass guitar just to noodle around with. I've already got an electric guitar and amp so I'm presuming that I can use the old amp with the bass? Can anyone give a recommendation on a budget bass, a place to get the yoke in either Cork or Dublin and maybe someone to give me lessons on it? :D

    Cheers.

do not plug a bass in to a guiytar amp unless you want it to explode!!

try getting an ibanez they do great entry level basses!

The amp will not explode but running the bass into a guitar amp for extended periods of time at a high volume will damage the cone in the amp.

Have a look in the buy and sell for a second hand bass. Do you not want to buy online?

Good thing you mentioned that so. I'd consider buying online, but surely I'd get whacked with delivery? I was rather hoping to get one in a shop (new or second hand), not sure I'd trust someone from Buy and Sell :)

They can explode Feylya. I've seen it. And believe me, few things are as satisfying as watching a 15watt MG go bang! :D I likes my Squier Jazz, though if your tastes are rockier I recommend a Squier P-Bass. It'll do you do mess around with for a while anyway. :)

Pah, 15W MG's exploding are saving people from their horrible tone :p

I'm demanding you to get a 2nd hand MIM Fender Jazz.Good entry but good enough to gig for years.....

I'd reccomend you buy the Bass in a store as you can see it, hold it, get a feel for it and play it so you know what you're getting. A cheap Fender would be bought for a couple hundred euro brand new.
