Where did spammers get my email name?

    Hi

Recently I have been getting a lot of Spam. It's not TOO offensive and it comes from user names that sound like characters from a Marx Bros film (eg Misprint C. Spume, Gunboats J. Specifics, Peevish G. Ricing etc) but...

Since I had a bad time with spam a few years ago I have been very careful with my email name. If I am signing up for anything I always use a mickey mouse hotmail account. I never ask to be unsubscribed. The name I am now getting spammed at is associated with my business so I really dont want to change it.

Does anyone know how they get your email name ? What did I do wrong?

Also any effective way to block the spam ? The ones I am getting seem to be carefully constructed to avoid obvious keywords.

They could have got it from somebody elses address book, from an email that was forwarded to many people including you or it could just be that they are flooding all the users of your domain name with spam. Sure you can be careful but they'll get you eventually, it's a fact of life. Sometimes they get picked up from web crawls too, try searching for your address in Google, if it comes up, then your name is out there for anyone else to find too.
